What is Caesar IV Online?
This is the online component of Caesar IV™. While playing Caesar IV Online, your progress and results are stored and displayed on this site.
How do I start?
To play, simply register as a governor and then select "Caesar IV Online" from the Main Menu in the game. You will be taken to a screen where you must log in with the username and password you registered. Once logged in, you will be able to choose from Caesar's Challenge and The Empire. To keep track of your progress, simply go to your profile (located beneath your username when logged into this site).
Why didn't I get an activation email?
Typically this means that your spam filter caught the email, so be sure to check your spam folder. If that wasn't the case, then go to your profile and ensure that your email is correct. If it's not, you can modify it there (note that you must be logged in). You can then request to have the activation email resent to your new email address.
Why can't I connect?
Assuming that you're connected to the Internet (and you probably are if you're reading this), be sure that your firewall software (i.e., Zone Alarm) is not blocking Caesar IV.
How do I update my account information (email, location, etc)?
When logged in, simply click on "profile" below your username and then go to "Modify Account".
Who can I contact for additional support?
You'll find answers to most questions and problems in the forums. If your search comes up empty, create a new thread explaining your issue. Alternatively, you can contact Sierra technical support.
Caesar's ChallengeCaesar's Challenge is the competitive side of Caesar Online. It's broken up into seasons and your progress is matched against and ranked in comparison to everyone else who is playing the same scenario(s) as you. This gives a sense of real live competition as your rank rises and falls relative to other players. The ultimate goal is to become the winning governor of a scenario during the current season.
How do the different objectives work?
High Score: Scoring takes into account your population, denarii, savings and ratings. There are no goals, so you can play as long as you want. Note: The value of your denarii score decays over time.
High Population: It's all about how many people you can support. As with High Score, there are no goals and you can play as long as you want. Note: This uses the average population over the past 3 in-game months, not current population.
Most Denarii: See how much Denarii you can make in the allotted time!
Time Trial: See how quickly you can meet the scenario's goals!
How do updates work?
High Score and High Population scenarios: Once every 5 minutes, the game sends an update to the server if your current results are better than your stored results.
Most Denarii and Time Trial scenarios: When the game ends you will have the option to submit your results.
Why doesn't my entry have a screenshot?
If you'd like a screenshot to appear next to your Caesar's Challenge entry on the site, simply hit the "Upload Screenshot" button on the Rankings Panel in game. Note: This only applies to High Score and High Population scenarios.
How do medals work?
After each season, medals are automatically awarded to the top 3 governors of each scenario. These can then be viewed via profile pages.
The EmpireThe Empire is the persistent side of Caesar Online where you can build up and continually improve upon your own personal province. This is accomplished by playing scenarios and then uploading them when you're ready to build upon your province. All of this can be viewed online, as well any other provinces and cities that make up The Empire. The more scenarios you master, the larger your province becomes!
How do I add my cities?
While playing any scenario in The Empire, you will see a Submit button and status panel on the bottom left of the screen. Clicking the Submit button will upload your city and its current details to the server. The status panel displays your current population (averaged over the past 3 in-game months) as well as your stored population for that scenario. With this you can easily tell when your current city is bigger than your stored entry.
Will more scenarios be added?
Yes! A lot more in fact. The Empire is starting off with 10 scenarios, but more will be enabled over time.
